Week 5 came and went with a bang! Final games of the season meant playoff implications and lots of emotions on the field. This weekend no team was backing down from the challenge. It was great to see the high quality of play including hurry up offenses and defense getting set immediately after the whistle.

In the 6-8 division it was the Steelers-Chargers that started off the weekend. The Steelers would rumble, bumble and stumble to a 32-8 win. With 5 different players having a hand in the scoring: John Aber, Josh Brandt, Tyler Bradley, Brennan Neidhardt and Cade Hoke. The Chargers put 186 yards on the board with their only TD coming from Turner Gau. Derek Johncour led the D with 6 flag pulls. In the other game unfortunately the Broncos had to forfeit to the Panthers.

In the 9-11 year old league: The Redhawks were looking to secure a second place finish against the Steelers. Chase McCorkle added 64 rushing yards to his league leading 378, and added 2 TDs to boot. The Redhawk offense was also fueled by the Cassamassa brothers and Joe English as they amassed 227 yards on the ground and 5 touchdowns. The Steeelers were not going down without a fight as they teallied 243 yards total offense led by 72 total yards from Matt Roethlin. Nick Roethlin added another 79 yards and scored the Steelers only TD as they fell to the Redhawks 32-6.

On Sunday the Tsunami came looking to upset the 4-0 Mustangs and they brought the guns. QB Austin Matz would lead the offense with 9 completions 2 of which found the endzone, Dillon Springer added 88 yards and 1 touchdown. The Mustangs would not give up easy. With starting QB Nate Hodder out it was rookie sensation Connor Zombek that would get the nod and take his first start at QB in the 9-11 age group. He would lead with 6 completions for 64 yards and 20 more yards on the ground. Josh Lowery added another 96 yds total offense and 2 TDS to the mix. This was looking to be a shootout until the Mustang secondary of Connor Trott, Brandon O’Shea and Lucas Shore would combine for 5 interceptions and 2 defensive TDs. When the dust settled from this one it was Mustangs 43, Tsunami 24.

Overall great weekends of competition as all teams are firing on all cylinders going into the playoffs!
See you next week!
